「〜は〜と異なります」という時の決まった言い方です。 be different from 〜 の代わりに be different than 〜 と言う人もいますが、やはり正しくは be different from です。文中の certainly は単なる強調のため、なくてもかまいません。
動詞の differ を用いて A differs from B （AはBとは異なる）とも言えます。

2. What I saw is certainly different from what l heard. （見ると聞くとは違う）
